How it works
Non-invasive treatment
EECP® Flow therapy is a non-invasive treatment that is administered by a trained nurse and monitored through an electrocardiogram (EKG) machine. The patient lies on a bed with cuffs linked to the lower limbs which inflate and deflate in sync with the heartbeat of the patient.
As the cuffs pump sequentially from the calves to the hips, it compresses the blood vessels and increases blood flow back to the heart. Then, just before the heart pumps, all three sets of cuffs are deflated simultaneously. The rapid deflation of the cuffs reduces the amount of work required from the heart to pump oxygenated blood back to the rest of the body. 35 x 1-hour treatment sessions are recommended for optimal benefit.
When your blood flow is enhanced, it naturally increases the flow of oxygen and nutrients to your entire body, including the major organs such as your heart, kidneys, brain, liver, and skin.
Exercise with no strain
Mimicking the benefits of exercise, EECP reduces the strain on the heart, which leads to increased stamina, cardiac capacity, better circulation, reduction in shortness of breath, and joint pain.
Known as the 'natural bypass'
During an EECP® session, three vitally important things take place to improve cardiac health.
- The flow of oxygenated blood to the heart is increased which reduces chest pain, shortness of breath, and fatigue.
- This flow of oxygenated blood to the heart widens and creates an increase in small blood vessels in the heart muscle.
- These blood vessels create ‘natural bypasses’ around narrowed or blocked arteries to restore good blood flow and relieve symptoms associated with heart disease – hence EECP® Flow Therapy has come to be known and recognised by doctors as the ‘natural bypass’.
